Close-up photos of ice and water at sunset.
poems of freezing, burning, remembering and being

ice remembers water

A concerto of poetry in four movements, where ice remembers water, fire reveals home, and where disappearing is only the beginning.

The Journey

Freezing

The ways we disappear in order to survive.

i rejected myself before others could

i created masks

stories

walls

a fortress

to keep me safe

i reasoned

if i created the cage

i would be the one holding the key

to let myself out

the problem with that is

what i created became more real

than any prison

anyone else would have put me in

unless i let myself out

i will remain there

Burning

Fire melts what no longer belongs.

the fire in me

will never go out

it has spent years

trying to show me

who I have

always been

Remembering

The return to what was never truly lost.

love came gently

like a warm glow

on a dark morning

like the sun glistening

on snow

like a smile

in a roomful of hostile faces

as if it wanted me to know

the one face

that needed kindness most

was my own

Being

No longer becoming. No longer proving. Simply being.

i am ablaze with truth

i have always been enough

in the dark

where hope is born

where seeds split open

beneath unseen soil

i prosper

the flame remains

through winter

through silence

through forgetting

i remember who i am

i simply am

and that

is enough
